Update
Not really sure where to start, things have been busy recently. Builders come every day before 8am and that leaves me hiding upstairs for hours trying to avoid awkward small talk. It's not that I'm rude or a snob (I don't think) I just don't know what to say to people. They are in my home and every time I need to get a drink or food or use the bathroom I have to squeeze past them and find something non committal to say that wont offend but shows some interest.
The Wednesday before last they didn't come as I was due to visit the office for some training (pointless stuff that doesn't benefit anyone but ticks the right boxes for the right senior managers). I end up throwing up after only going one stop on the train. Not a good morning, the ticket collector probably thought I had a hangover. I spent two hours travelling and only went as far as Norwich and back. I think that was the begining of my downward spiral recently. The day after I woke up ill again and was even less use than normal until after lunch time. By Monday I had lost about half a stone in weight and was eating only a bread roll and maybe some veg everyday. thankfully the last few days my stomach has started to settle again and I have gained a couple of pound back. Not sure gaining the weight is such a good thing but at least it shows I am managing to eat right! I even managed to go for dinner on Friday although Tom ate most of my food and I only had a main course. I think he was secretly disappointed at not having dessert.
The kitchen is almost complete now. We had no running water in there for 2 days and they have disconnected the oven and not put it back (not sure why) so we are living off microwave food and take out. This might actually be the reason I am putting my weight back on, go figure. It does look good in there though! Only one real hitch for the kitchen and that is that they couldn't get enough door and drawer fronts!? Odd since they ordered them in advance. So we have to wait a week or two now for them to come back and finish it off. The decorators will be here tomorrow painting the rooms still to be done.
Need to arrange an electrician too. We had this bright idea that we should change the covers on the plug sockets as they were old, damaged and didn't match. The ones in the kitchen went ok but in the dining room we had a couple of issues and the main socket exploded. Sparks actually fle. I didn't know they did that. Was quite scary for a second as the lights went out there was this loud pop/bang noise and orange sparks came out of the socket in the corner. Now none of the sockets in that room work. DIY must stand for Damage It Yourself.
The holiday is now paid for in full, just need to save some spending money for the excursions and some holiday clothes. Have never been anywhere like that before so really not sure what to expect but looking forward to it. Need to arrange for my jabs in the New Year too.
Picked up a new book, yet to start reading it though- Crime & Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky. I was planning on picking up House of the dead (same author) but this caught my eye instead. I never noticed before but all the Russian classics seem to be written around the time of Napoleon!?
The premise of the story is that a destitute Russian student decides to kill someone, he does so without a sense of guilt. He is persued by a police officer investigating the crime and finds that his growing guilt is actually more of a threat to him than the law. His only confidante is a prostitute and she is his chance of redemption.
Not sure how all this will pan out but should be interesting.
Still listening to Cute is What We Aim For. It's just so nice and upbeat to keep away the winter. Sugar coated cynicism, I think that's the best way to describe what they do.
Watching- Season 3 of Lost. Not sure why I watch it really. You know you aren't eer going to find out what's really happening. To be honest the episodes spend a lot of time going over old ground or at best taking you only a step or two closer. Whatever the production team and actors are doing though, they do it right seeing as millions of people watch it every week waiting to see what will happen next. I guess after a while you have invested so much time in the stories of these charactes that you just can't help but watch in case something happens.
Got Tom his first Xmas present yesterday when I was shopping. It isn't anything expensive but I think he will like it. A few months ago we went and looked around bizarre bizarre and spotted some wooden ducks and he said how cute they were. They are life size and in a medium warm wood similar to oak (possibly teak?), at the time we had been considering buying some real ducks for the back garden. We seeing as we have scrapped that idea I thought I would go and pick up a couple of wooden ones instead. I dread to think what he will name them, but they wont take much feeding at least!
